Saturday's Song: Glorious Unfolding Part 3. Slow Stitching. Stash Report. Book Date. from Faith, Trust and Breast Cancer

Saturday's Song: Glorious Unfolding Part 3

In my last post we read about learning and praying the promise of God.  I bet many of you pray them over your loved ones' lives, but do you pray them over your own life? I know I struggle to pray for myself, but I'm working on that.

In his book, Prayer of Jabez, Bruce Wilkinson writes about a man who eavesdropped on the prayers of a man he deeply respected, a man of great faith.  Guess who this amazing man prayed for first?

Himself.  Yup.  Himself.

Friends, we are worth praying ...

Modern quilt with Christmas ornaments and trees from Pieced Brain

Modern quilt with Christmas ornaments and trees

Get this free quilt pattern and make a modern quilt with Christmas ornaments and trees. Work with the fabrics I did or your favorite or Christmas fabrics!

I can’t believe I forgot to write a post about the quilt Deck the Halls that I designed for Dear Stella Fabrics. I worked with their collection Sparkle All the Way but it would look great with any of their Holiday fabric lines (I love “Baby it’s Cold Outside”. No, wait… so many options!).

Deck the Halls measures 53-1/2″ x 64″ – a perfect lap quilt size. The blocks are large ...

Santa's Helper from The Cozy Quilter

Last week, I mentioned that I had made a surprise gift for a friend.  This block was one of 12 free blocks --part of the Quiltmas Spectacular Block sampler that is available for free until the end of December 2020.  I have printed all the blocks, hoping to make several over the next year or so --somehow incorporating them into gifts for next year.  This block is called "Santa's Helper".

My quilty friend, Sandra, posted the picture below on Instagram recently, and once I saw this block pattern, I knew that I had to make it for her.

I ...

Christmas cookies

Two of my five grand children who are living here in Greece came visit us for the week end. It was such a happiness to see them so joyful and enthusiastic for preparing Christmas! My six years old grand-son and my four years old grand-daughter helped me baking the French traditional Christmas cookies : sablés de Noël. After what, with the help of their father, they cut some paper ornaments and garlands, and hanged them on the tree. It is the first time I let the children decorate the Christmas tree without interfering and I must say that they did a ...

bits and pieces . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Right off the bat, let me put your minds to rest . . .
This got finished, so this could happen . . .
Whew!  All is right with the (her) world again!

It's been a busy week, at work and home.  For the last eight years, we've gone to see The Nutcracker ballet every Christmas season.  This year they didn't do the ballet (go figure).  So instead, I've been putting together something fun to take its place . . .
We'll have a full-blown tea party with all the trimmings, and then watch the ballet on DVD!!  (I've got several versions, of ...

Christmas quilt with ornaments – win the magazine!

This Christmas quilt with ornaments for your home decor spells Fun and Joy all in one piece! Make it in a weekend, hang it up, or snuggle under it as its size makes it a flexible accessory for the Holidays.

Photograph by American Quilter magazine. Used with permission.

“Family Traditions” measures 54″ x 56″ and the blocks finish at 12″. When I designed it I was inspired by memories of decorating the Christmas tree with my young sons, and their joy in carefully handling the exquisite ornaments, many of which we had purchased together.

The quilt features fabrics from the ...

Appliqué Chimneys and a New Project from The Cozy Quilter

A few weeks ago, I noticed that another one of the Slow Sunday Stitchers was starting a new counted cross stitch project through Linen and Threads--it runs a new part of the pattern each month for a larger sampler project and there is a bonus Christmas ornament pattern each month as well.  I have decided to make a few of the Christmas ornaments and started the January pattern this week. The pattern suggests using one colour for the entire design but since I did not want to follow the directions, I picked out three shades of gray and a ...

The Big Weird Bead from Quilt Paint Create

Remember the folded star ornament I wanted to paint?
I finally got around to doing that.
ornamentI wanted to add a button to the middle, but I didn’t have anything interesting in a complementary color. Enter the big weird bead.
It came in a pack with a lot of smaller more usable beads. I’m just glad to have found a place to use it.
That’s one more thing off the project pile.

Embroidered Ornaments from From My Carolina Home

Making ornaments from embroidered motifs is fun, and a perfect exchange gift for your holiday parties. I have made ornaments from crewel work and cross stitch, and today I want to show you how to use your embroidery machine to do something different.  My embroidery machine has cards with motifs on them.  I began with this angel, but not in all the colors.

Embroidered Ornaments at FromMyCarolinaHome.com

Threading the machine with a white rayon thread, when the machine stopped to change colors, I just hit the button to start again.  I ended up with a lovely embroidery all in white.

I cut the piece ...

Sparkles and Sequins from Needle and Foot

Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time with my son and his family. They were spending a long weekend in Colorado while my daughter-in-law interviewed for a job she is interested in. Since moving and changing jobs is a huge decision, the kids wanted time to look at the area without the added help of their two year old daughter. So I got to be the nanny for a few days.

I had not been to Denver until this trip. Denver is at an altitude of nearly 6,000 feet and I usually avoid high altitudes ...

Christmas Makes from Oops Lah

As every year I've made a few Christmas gifts and Christmas ornaments. A friend of mine has recently retired and wants to start to embroider so I made her this box and filled it with some essentials.

Then I made these patchwork note book covers

A couple of bird ornaments

Then I made a couple of folders with papers I bought in China. The first is a very typical Chines pattern

and here are some Shanghai ladies from the twenties. I hope my friends from my Asia time will enjoy them.
